Activities: Sem-Ender 2011

Sunday, October 23, 2011

The Committee on Internal Affairs organized a day-long Sem-Ender for the organization, incorporating Committee Wars into its list of activities.

Committee Wars, which served as a venue for healthy competition within the organization also served as a team building activity as members of the committees worked with each other to accomplish tasks in multiple stations, testing out their resourcefulness and teamwork.

In the end, the merged group of Acad+Proj+Jaja (Red and Orange) came in first, MarPub (Green) came in second, MemComm (Pink) came in 3rd and Fin+Sec (Blue and Yellow) came in 4th.

Bragging rights aside, the day ended on a happy note with group photo sessions and a rewarding meal.

Events: 2011 MBB Week

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

MBB Week is a week-long event held and organized by the UP Molcular Biology and Biotechnology Society in an effort to meet the vision and mission of the organization to Promote, Enhance and Express.

Promote
The week started off with TsaMBBahan, a quiz show designed to test the limits of luck with an array of questions regarding just about anything under the sun. Geared toward students within the University, this activity served as a fun-filled attraction to promote the organization and its activities while allowing participation from non-members. Participants were treated to a flurry of interesting trivia questions and snacks care of Sizzling Bangus.

A Journal Seminar was also held in the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology to educate students on recent trends in Molecular Biology. Topics included A population-specific HTR2B stop codon predisposes to severe impulsivity, and other interesting discoveriespartaining to Molecular Biology. To promote interest and awareness of MBB as a whole, UP MBBS holds such Journal Seminars at least once every semester. These talks are open to the public, specifically students of the College of Science.

Enhance
A Marketing Seminar was held for the members of the organization with respect to Business Etiquette, Client Handling and Sponsorship calls. UP MBBS holds this event catering to its members in order to enhance and instill skills useful to future endeavors. These skills aim to prepare the members for work and cultivate within them responsibility and versatility.

Express
UP MBBS would be nothing without its mother institute and MBB Week paid tribute to the people and the institute that has made everything possible by holding Faculty and Admin Appreciation Day, preparing a meal for all of the Teachers, Professors, Admin and Staff of NIMBB.

In a further expression of the organization's gratitude to the entire institute, including its student body, MBB Night was held as the culmination of MBB Week. UP MBBS Applicants presented talents and programs catering to the guests. Games were played encouraging fun, healthy competition and no party would be complete without a bountiful dinner for all.

All in all it has been an eventful week. We look forward to seeing you at another of UP MBBS' events in the future.

Events: MBB Week Presents: MBB Night 2011

Saturday, September 17, 2011

UP MBBS Hosts MBB Night every year to cater to the Faculty, Admin and student body of the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology in one fun-filled night of games, food, dancing and general merriment.

This year's event, held at MyPlace Katipunan was an exhibition of talents from the 2011-2012 Academic Year Applicants of UP MBBS and they did not disappoint. Ranging from Band performances to provocative dances to a full on choir peace, the applicants displayed not only resourcefulness and creativity, but an utter lack of inhibition. [videos to follow]

Missed out on the action? Well next time, try not to. We hope to see you again for next year's MBB Night!

Events: MBB Week Presents: TsaMBBahan

Thursday, September 15, 2011

Last September 12, 2011. TsaMBBahan, the quiz show about anything under the sun was held in the National Institute of Geological Sciences Room 015. Known for its utterly random nature, this year's TsaMBBahan catered to trivia-guzzling students of UP Diliman with categories as skillfully named as they are random.

These categories were TiniMBBang Ka Ngunit Kulang (movies), C-C-C-oMBBo Breaker! (video games), HaMBBurger (food), IMBBa (internet), JustiM BBieber (Justin Bieber), ZoMBBie Apocalypse (zombies), UP NaMBBing Mahal (UP), and How I Met Your MBBother (TV).
Seven teams, Team Sizzling Bangus, Team Champion Team, Team Kokak, Team Mang, Team Lacoste, Team-Ata, and Team Fluffy endured relentless questioning as their wits were tested to the highest degree whilst enjoying seemingly endless amounts of Sizzling Bangus chips.

Despite coming in late and being outrageously outnumbered, Team Fluffy, comprised of only one member became a prime contender, but in the end, only one team prevailed, and to no surprise.

Drawing energy from the provided snackfoods, Team Sizzling Bangus came in first.

Congratulations and we hope to see you again for another exciting TsaMBBahan next year!

Events: Mr. and Ms. FreCShie 2011

Being the first CS event that UP MBBS lended their helping hands to support this year, Mr. and Ms. FreCShie 2011 was one memorable experience. A week of props making and logistics on the organization's part, and a week of practice and dedication from the institute representatives Katrina David and Joseph Libunao made this event very much anticipated.

The event started with much stress as a sudden downpour and a scheduled pep rally made it difficult for most to make their way to the venue at the NIP atrium. Tensions were high as the representatives rushed to get ready.

Fresh from an all-kill CS event win last year, NIMBB had a lot planned for this event, including sparklers, an entourage of dancers and a larger-than-life arch to escort its representatives into the pageant.

It was no wonder that in the end, Katrina David and Joseph Libunao went home with the Best Talent and Crowd Favorite awards (which were determined by the judges' scores and by bottle votes respectively) and not to mention bagged the title of Overall Winner of Mr. and Ms. FreCShie 2011. The Best Costume award went to the Institute of Chemistry for the second year in a row, and the Institute of Math bagged the award for Most Photogenic with an overwhelming amount of likes on their Facebook Photo.

This CS Event aimed to unite the CS freshmen in a common effort and bring out the bibo in each of them. I'm sure we can say with confidence that the CS freshmen are some of the best in the university, with brains, beauty, and talent to boot.

There is no limit to what anybody can achieve with help and support of friends, and family. I'm sure each institute is equally proud of their representatives, regardless of the outcome, and we look forward to the next Mr. and Ms. FreCShie. Again, a big round of applause for the winners, and a big THANK YOU to UP MBBS for their undying support in this endeavor.

Activities: Freshman Orientation Program 2011

Sunday, June 26, 2011

Last June 13 2011 after the College of Science Freshman Orientation Program, Albert Hall, the home building of the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, became the venue of this year's NIMBB Freshman Orientation Program.

Hosted by UP MBBS in cooperation with the institute representatives (who are coincidentally, also part of UP MBBS), the program kicked off the new academic year with a big bang.

Introducing the MBB curriculum and general college life to the new members of the NIMBB family were just a few of the activities lined up for the day. All in all, the freshies enjoyed an org-prepared lunch, lab tour, and talent session.

Congratulations to the winners of the presentation and congratulations to the freshies who were just so bibo and game throughout the entire thing.

We hope that this little gesture from UP MBBS and your institute NIMBB has shown you that throughout your (hopefully) four years with us, we will serve not only as your fellow course-mates, admin, teachers and staff, but also a big warm family.

And once again,
WELCOME MBB FRESHIES
from UP MBBS

Activities: UP MBBS Outreach 2011

Last May 28, 2011, at Park 7, Bgy. Loyola Heights, UP MBBS conducted its first outreach program of the academic year, Family Day Summer Camp 2011, organized by Klub Tala in partnership with UP MBBS and the EduChild Foundation, Inc..

Summer Camp is an annual project organized by Klub Tala which aims to give lessons and activities to underprivileged children, 6 to 12 years of age, from the Katipunan Area.

This year, in cooperation with EduChild, the activities included seminars for parents with regards to rearing a family

The Family Day was a venue for a short talk on strengthening family bonds and promoting healthy family relationships, as well as fun, food and games for the entire family. All in all, about 40 children and their families participated in the activity and the event was a great success.

In line with UP MBBS's philosophy, Promote, Enhance, Express, activities such as these allow the org to give back to the community.

Stay posted for more outreach activities to come. If interested in partnership for a cause please contact Ms. Krizelle Alcantara (09276389501).

Announcement: We're Live!

Thursday, March 24, 2011

Hey Guys!

It's official! We have a blog/site! I couldn't think of a catchy title or name so I went with the generic, I hope you don't mind >_>

First things first:

Compatibility
I've only tested this layout on Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, so people who use IE, would you kindly check if the site displays properly on your PC? I also need compatibility checks from other OS's if possible :)

The site
As you can see, this site will be the venue of quite a bit of the online marketing of our org's identity, as well as posts from the writers of our publication The Transcript:D I've set up a few tabs above ^^^ if you've noticed, including [but not limited to] an about UPMBBS, an activities, a contact us page, as well as pages for members, applicants as well as alumni.

The only problem is most of the pages are empty :(

I have planned for the Members Page to include member profiles segregated by committee, contact info (as appropriate), and the Featured Member of the month. The Applicants Page will be of similar format but will include the buddies of the applicants as well downloadable files (checklist, preamble, constitution, schedule, etc.) pertinent to the application process. The Alumni page will serve as the venue for announcements for org Alumni and will (hopefully) include brief profiles of each alumnus/alumna. The Activities page will contain the year's projected schedule of activities. It will also highlight upcoming activities with teasers as well as info and details concerning these org hosted events for the general public.

As I have yet to discuss the detailed contents of these pages with the rest of Execomm, MarPub, Memcomm and Seccomm, the Activities, Alumni, Member and Applicants pages will remain empty for now.

However, we are looking for writers to contribute to the About UP MBBS page which will give a brief summary of the history, mission, vision and goals of UP MBBS (including pictures). Any volunteers? :)

Posting
As far as I am concerned, this blog is free for anybody in the organization to post on. Details regarding login will be posted in the facebook group as soon as finals end.

A few things have to be maintained though, for the sake of order. Post Titles should be labeled according to their nature. For example, posts regarding Site Announcement like this one should have a title labeled Announcement:. Posts which concern members should start with Members:, event posts with Event:, The Transcript articles with Article: etc etc.

Posts should also be tagged and labeled for sorting with regards to the topic as well. Post labels not pertaining to the title should be applied with your own discretion. (Just make sure they're appropriate.

Images on posts are optional. However posts containing more than two images should be contained within a jump break or (Read more). Such posts may start off with a brief splur but must subsequently apply a <!--more--> tag before the part of your post which is too lengthy.

Also, when appropriate, feel free to add your signature at the end of a post you created :) If you have trouble aligning your signature or a signature image you want to add, I'll format it for you :)

Affiliates/Sponsors
This is still quite tentative but I was contemplating having an affiliate space on the sidebar for site affiliates. Affiliation is mostly for site traffic and that might not be so important to us at this particular point, but high site traffic makes for better advertising. If we get enough site traffic each month, this blog may also be a venue for advertising our sponsors for a particular event which may accompany a marketing package in the marketing proposal.

Until I meet with Fincomm, I won't be adding an Affiliate tab but the idea's still up there.

Org Logo
I've revamped our org logo to a more high res version for everyone to use! I'll be uploading more versions soon (Glow, Shadow, Beveled), but for now, the flat print version may be downloaded here.

Contact Us List
I've included the blog contacts, marpub contacts and NIMBB contacts on the contact page. It would be recommended that each committee, or any committee that deems it necessary have a contact number or email to provide for the contact us.

Domain?
If we're lucky enough to get some huge income this year, we might be able to afford our own domain *coughlikeUPJMAcough*. But for now, blogspot is okay too :P

That's all for now. Since it's summer break, we don't have many activities planned or much to post about, so this will be a good preparation period for the blog pages to be filled! :D Remember, we're still looking for volunteers :D

Good luck with finals, oral defenses and enjoy your summer everyone!
